My name is Ladena Racine-Tran and I am very happy to be your child’s grade 4 teacher this year.
I am really looking forward to another year teaching this grade level. I have so many great ideas for projects and activities to do with your children. I know they will have a wonderful year.
On Wednesday I gave the students a quick tour of the classroom. We also talked about classroom expectations. The group seems very eager to get to work and start learning new material.
We are still working on our final schedule but I can tell you that we will be having French Grammar, Math and reading every day of the week. We will have 3 English sessions per week. Two gym periods and two music periods. We also have one library block.
Here is a highlight of some of the routines I will have in the classroom.
Mot du jour/Word of the day
This year, instead of a weekly list of words to memorize I have decided to have a word of the day. Each day a new word will be written on the board. Two or three sentences will also be written explaining how to use the word. When students come in each morning they are to take their Mot du jour cahier out and copy the word and the sentences. There will be 5 words per week.
On Mondays there will be a dictee using these words and a few of the sentences. I will be posting the word of the day on the website every morning. I will also be indicating which two sentences will be quizzed every week. I do require the students to write all sentences and words in their Mot du Jour cahier for extra writing practice. If a student is absent they can always check the website to stay up to date.
Student of the Week
As an ongoing English project I have a Student of the Week in class. Every Friday a student is chosen at random to complete a presentation about themselves on the following Friday. A sheet is sent home with a poster board if needed. Students can decorate their project with photos, drawings or more. Students then present their project on Thursdays in front of the class. The poster is then displayed in class for the following week. I have done this project in past years and have always loved seeing the amazing work everyone does.
Homework
In our class we will have weekly dictee lists and weekly spelling lists. I will also send French stories to read at home.
If your child is not done work at school it will be sent home that night to complete.
Agendas
We have already created our classroom agendas for the month of September. Each month we will be adding dates and information to our agendas. You child is responsible for writing their homework in the agenda each day. I will also post the homework on this website for you to refer to.
Green Classroom
Our classroom this year will be the Green Classroom at Campus View.
I plan on teaching the children how to be conscious of our environment by reducing, reusing and recycling.
I plan on inviting the CRD to do a presentation in our class very soon. They have an amazing program that is combined with a visit to the Hartland Landfill.
I plan on having our classroom pass information about being Green to other students in the school at assemblies and during morning announcements. I hope it will be a very successful program and that our classroom will be the leaders in the school when it comes to taking care of the environment.
If you have any ideas on how we can be more Green in our classroom please pass them along!
I would like to finish by saying that I hope you find this website useful. I hope it is a good reference to all of you and keeps you up to date on what we are doing in class.
I have decided not to post any photos of the children on this website. The students’ art work and written work will often be featured and signed only with their first name. If you have any comments or concerns about this please feel free to contact me.
Merci!
A bientot!
Mme Racine
